ARMY HELPS

UX / UI DESIGN

Project Overview

A multi-platform career mentorship responsive website and dedicated mobile app designed to assist veterans in their professional journeys.

Project Duration

January 2021 - May 2021

Project Overview

The problem:

It was developed to address the challenges faced by veterans during their transition to civilian careers, including a lack of guidance, understanding of the job market, and access to professional networks.

The goal:

To empower veterans by providing them with personalized mentorship and resources to navigate their career paths successfully.

User Research Summary

For the user research phase of my project, I used qualitative interviews and surveys, to gain
insights into the needs and challenges faced by veterans during their career transitions.

Insights: The needs and challenges

Translating their military skills to civilian jobs

Difficulty in articulating transferable skills

Navigating the unfamiliar civilian job market

Lack of available resources

PERSONAS

Using the qualitative data from interviews, there are 2 group profiles. We have Stefanik Thompson (Sniper 42) and Emily Lam (Sergeant 32) to better understand their points of views and goals.

Competitive Audit

Analyzing key competitors, evaluating their user experience, job listings, and support resources. The findings provided valuable insights, enabling targeted enhancements to empower veterans.

Ideation

Considering user personas, conducting user research, and analyze user behaviors for my design decisions. Focusing on navigation, content organization, visual hierarchy.

Low-fidelity prototype

Made iterative design changes based on the feedback received. Adjusted the layout, placement of search and filter options, or the presentation of job details to enhance the user flow and improve the overall user experience.

Creating an intuitive search experience by employing predictive search suggestions and auto-complete functionality.

Real-time filtering options

Digital Wireframes

I wanted to create a page that effectively communicates job opportunities to users, making it easy for them to understand and navigate. Understanding their needs, preferences, and pain points and prioritizing the feedback that aligns with the project's goals.

Usability Study: Findings

  • The usability study revealed that some participants found the website's navigation complex and overwhelming, making it challenging to locate specific resources or job listings.

  • Participants expressed the need for more robust and granular filtering options in the job search functionality.

  • The usability study highlighted the importance of optimizing the website for mobile devices.

Prototype

Dedicated App

My goal was to create a user-friendly dedicated app with intuitive navigation. Study feedback highlighted the need for clearer menu titles. I revised and simplified the titles based on their suggestions, ensuring they were descriptive and easy to understand. The implemented changes improved the app's usability and user experience significantly.

Mobile App

I approached the design with the aim of providing a seamless user experience. Focusing on simplicity and alignment with user expectations.

Accessibility Considerations

ONE

Incorporating color contrast ratios, alt text for images, and scalable font sizes to ensure readability for users with visual impairments.

TWO

Using a user-friendly color palette with sufficient contrast for individuals with visual impairments. Accessibility was a key focus throughout the design process..

THREE

A clean and legible typography, ensuring that text was easily readable for users with visual challenges.

Sitemap

5-page website, organizing the pages strategically. The homepage acted as the entry point, leading to the About Us, Services, Find a Mentor, Career Resources and Success Stories. Each page had its unique purpose, and the sitemap reflected a clear hierarchy, enabling users to navigate seamlessly through the website's content.

Responsive Designs

Responsive designs ensures that potential recruits can access information on new careers regardless of the device they use.

This inclusive approach maximizes reach and engagement, making it easier for individuals to explore and pursue military opportunities.

"This app has great potential to be a valuable resource for the military community.”

Benjamin Collins

"It's user-friendly and caters perfectly to the needs of the military community.”
