King Pet

UX / UI DESIGN

Project Overview

Helping pet owners easily register their beloved companions using a user-friendly online chat function where owners provide essential information about their pets, such as breed, age, and medical history. This efficient system ensures accurate record-keeping and facilitates the adoption process.

Project Duration

February 2023 - June 2023

Responsibilities

Conducting mock interviews, digital wireframes, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies. Making iterations on my designs and making them responsive.

Project Overview

The problem:

Ensuring a user-friendly interface that simplifies the registration process for potential adopters and integrating a robust database system to efficiently manage the growing number of registered pets and their adoption statuses.

The goal:

Create a user-friendly platform that simplifies the process of registering and adopting pets.

User Research Summary

I conducted user interviews, which I then turned into empathy maps to better understand the target user and their needs. I discovered that many target users might not have the time to register their pets but would like to do that in case anything happens to them.

Many pet registration websites are confusing to navigate, which frustrated many target users.
This caused a normally quick experience to become challenging for them.

Pain Points

Complex registration process: A lengthy and complicated registration process. Unclear instructions, making it difficult and time-consuming for pet owners to complete the registration.

Limited website functionality: Making it challenging for pet owners to navigate the site and complete the registration smoothly.

Lack of customer support: Pet owners may require assistance from customer support. Websites may have insufficient or slow customer support.

PERSONAS

Using the qualitative data from interviews, there are 2 group profiles. We have Steve (Mechanic 75) and David (Consultant 53) to better understand their points of views and goals.

Competitive Audit

Analyzing key competitors, evaluating their user experience, job listings, and support resources. The findings provided valuable insights, enabling targeted enhancements to empower veterans.

Digital wireframes

The homepage gives a positive first impression and engages users. Setting the tone and establishing the overall brand image. Encouraging the user to explore further.

I understood that having live assistance when registering a pet improves the registration experience by providing personalized guidance, immediate assistance, handling complex cases, troubleshooting technical issues, building confidence and trust, and offering supplementary information.

Sitemap

I wanted a clear navigation and user experience so it improves the overall experience and reduces user frustration, keeping accessibility and usability in mind..

Paper Wireframes

I wanted to make sure my structure and layout depicted a clear visual representation using hierarchy and user flow so its easy to understand the concept and iterate on the website's structure and layout before moving into the digital design phase.

Responsive Design

I designed a flexible and responsive layout that adapts seamlessly to different screen sizes. Including a grid system and fluid elements that adjust proportionally to fit various devices. It provides an optimal user experience on different devices.

Usability Study: Parameters

Findings #1

The lack of a clear call-to-action button on the homepage led to confusion and hindered users' ability to initiate the adoption process.

Study type Unmoderated usability study

Location Remote

Participants 3 participants - 1 round

Length 35 minutes

Usability Study Findings

Findings #2

Users reported difficulties in navigating between different pages of individual dog profiles, leading to a disjointed and inefficient browsing experience.

Findings #3

Users reported difficulties in navigating between different pages of individual dog profiles, leading to a disjointed and inefficient browsing experience.

Takeaways

Impact 1

User engagement on the website soared, with an average session duration of 8 minutes and a low bounce rate of 25%, indicating a positive user experience and interest in the content.

Impact 2

Through user surveys, 95% of participants expressed high satisfaction with the website's features, ease of use, and success in helping them find their perfect furry companions.

Finally, a user-friendly platform that connects me with local shelters and rescues. It’s like having a virtual adoption fair right at my fingertips!
— Emily Ramirez

Conduct user testing with a diverse group of participants to gather feedback on the usability and effectiveness of the website design.

What I learned:

By using wireframing and prototyping tools, I gained an understanding of the iterative design process, allowing me to refine and improve the website's user interface based on user feedback.

Next steps

Develop a marketing and outreach strategy to promote the website, including social media campaigns, partnerships with local shelters, and targeted advertising to attract potential adopters and increase visibility.
